The Alumni Model United Nations Conference (AMUNC) is an initiative of the Association of Moroccan American Dialog (AMAD), which aims at reuniting Moroccan and American alumni of different US government sponsored educational and cultural programs in addition to students representing different Moroccan schools of higher education to discuss issues of national and international concern.
The model united nations conference is an authentic simulation/role-playing of the work of an organ in the United Nations system such as the General Assembly, the Security Council, ECOSOC, UNESCO, WHO … etc. Role playing means acting as if you are actually from the country you are representing in the conference, allowing the participants to step into the shoes of the ambassadors of the UN member states. The conference is also a great opportunity for the participants, technically called ‘delegates’, to learn many useful skills such as making and delivering speeches, preparing draft resolutions, negotiating with allies and adversaries, resolving conflicts and navigating the UN’s rules of procedures in an attempt to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.
The popularity of Model UN continues to grow and more than 400,000 middle school, high school and college/university students worldwide participate every year. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts participated in Model UN during their academic careers: UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, former World Court Justice Stephen M. Schwebel, former first-daughter Chelsea Clinton
